How does it work? It’s simple: every Sunday, starting on April 1st, 2012, check the Sunday Art calendar here on this Tumblr and then produce a doodle, a quick sketch, a photoshopped image, a painting, a sculpture, or what ever you are best / happiest making. Then share it using your favourite social media (Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, etc.) and tag it with #sundayArt, the date and the theme.
Who can do this? Anyone. Of any skill. It doesn’t matter how old you are, how good you are, or what media you like to work with.
Why are you doing this? We were talking about how we wished we were doing more creatively. We also talked about how much we enjoy working on the photo of the day challenge on Instagram. So we decided: why not come up with a similar approach for art work? It would give us an incentive to sit down and create something. The result is #sundayART.
What’s the goal? There’s no bigger goal other than to have fun, be inspired, be playful, experiment, and share the art work that you are producing. Ideally this will catch on and we will find out that there are lots of people out there waiting for the moment to be the artist that they have always been.
What if I am no good? Like we said, it is meant to be fun and for all skill levels. Whatever you do will be better than you think and better than if you do nothing. Likewise, the more fun you have doing it, the better it may be.
Why isn’t it daily? We figured that it might take more time to produce some art works like a painting than it does to produce a photo. We decided a week is a good length and it keeps you from making it too serious.
Do I have to do it on Sunday? Nope. You can produce your art work at any time of the week. Tag it with #sundayArt, though, in order that others can see and search for it.
Will I get rich as a result of this? If some big art dealer sees your work and loves it, then yes! Otherwise, no. :)
What do I do next? Start creating! Tag it. Post it online. Let others know. Let us know.
Are you going to post everyone’s work on this tumblr? For now we thought we’d use the tumblr simply to inform people of what is happening with the Sunday Art project.
How can I get more information? Easy. You can comment here on this tumblr. Or you can send us an email at our gmail account: mySundayArt. Or you can send us a tweet on our Twitter account: @mySundayArt. We may not get back to you right away, but we will try to get back to you in a day or two.
Ready? Excellent. We hope to see your work soon!
